Anxieties, Attacks and Disorders
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
Generalized Anxiety Disorder is the term for common symptoms of anxiety that don't seem to be rooted in any specific event like a childhood trauma or car accident. It may be connected with the setting you grew up in or with aspects of your identity, which we can help you understand and develop with intention.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
OCD involves pervasive and persistent thoughts that relate to compulsive behaviors that you believe you must do in order to feel better. Sometimes OCD is related to trauma, but it can also just be a way of feeling in control in an out of control environment.
Panic Attacks
Many people who have panic attacks have been to the ER thinking what occurred was a heart attack or stroke. However, panic attacks (sometimes also called anxiety attacks) are merely the physical sign of crisis-level thoughts and feelings.
Hot Tip: If doing jumping jacks during an attack helps, it's just anxiety!
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Phobias
If you've been afraid of public speaking, spiders, snakes, heights, or going out in public, you might have a specific phobia. While some of these may seem normal, how they affect you or limit your functioning can determine how severe your phobia is.
Social Anxiety
It could be groups or large crowds, out in public or in small private gatherings. Either way, it's normal to feel anxious around people. Feeling insecure or worried something bad might happen when you're around others may be signs of social anxiety.
